Multimode Transport Consultants Ltd (MTCL) started in 1981 when Abdul Awal Mintoo founded the Company. Initially MTCL was involved in lighterage from bigger vessels at the outer anchorage of Chittagong Port. During this period, large quantities of food grains were imported to Bangladesh under PL-480 as a grant facility from the United States. To facilitate this, MTCL chartered ships which became a part of its service offering. In 1985, MTCL received the agency of US Lines, one of the largest and most prestigious shipping companies at the time. Ultimately in 1987, with the acquisition of M.V AL-Tabith, Multimode Transport Consultants Ltd became one of the pioneers in this sector in Bangladesh with its operations stretching from Vladivostok to the western coast of Africa. A total of 5 ships were acquired and were a part of the permanent fleet, in addition to the chartered vessels. MTCL exited the shipping business in the year 2000.
MTCL was the first global distributor of Proton, Malaysia’s national car at that time. MTCL became distributor of Proton in 1987. MTCL is no longer engaged in the automotive distributor business.
Currently, MTCL operates a transport service center and is also engaged in transport and management consultancy.
